What Is Diwali?
Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the biggest celebrations of the year for Hindu, Sikh and Jain families, and it is marked with lamps, prayers, sweets, music and time with loved ones. Jersey City is home to one of the largest Indian American communities in New Jersey, so a waterfront Diwali party with dancing, dhol drums and a diya lighting is a fitting way to share the holiday with neighbors of every background. First timers are welcome, and the kids DJ set makes it an easy outing for families.
Getting There
Exchange Place is steps from the Exchange Place PATH station and the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, so leaving the car at home is the easy move. The event is outdoors on the waterfront, so dress for a November evening by the river. Seats are limited, and the registration page showed most of the 2,000 spots still open when we checked.
