New Year’s Eve 2026 falls on Thursday, December 31, and Hudson County’s waterfront, from Jersey City and Hoboken up to Weehawken, puts the Manhattan skyline right in front of you at midnight, for free. Here are the public waterfront parks our team recommends for New Year’s Eve views in Hoboken, Jersey City and Weehawken, plus the New Year’s events confirmed so far for 2026.

A quick reality check on fireworks: New York City’s midnight displays are launched from inside the city, and what you can see from the New Jersey side depends on where and how high they go. So instead of promising a specific show, we picked spots with the widest open views of Manhattan, where you can see whatever lights up the skyline at midnight.

Best Public Waterfront Spots for New Year’s Eve Views

Pier A Park, Hoboken

Hoboken’s signature waterfront park juts out into the Hudson with a great lawn and a gazebo, giving you front row views of both Midtown and Lower Manhattan. It is a short walk from the Hoboken PATH and ferry terminal, which makes it one of the easiest New Year’s Eve viewing spots to get to and from.

Maxwell Place Park, Hoboken

Up in north Hoboken, Maxwell Place Park sits right on the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway with open passive space facing Midtown. It is usually calmer than the parks near the PATH, a plus if you want room to spread out at midnight.

Hamilton Park, Weehawken

Perched on Boulevard East atop the Palisades, Weehawken’s Hamilton Park has one of the most sweeping skyline views in the region. Being up on the cliffs means you look out over the river at the whole Midtown skyline, which is exactly what you want at midnight.

Weehawken Waterfront Park, Weehawken

Down at river level, Weehawken’s waterfront park pairs the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway with big views straight across to Midtown. For more on the park itself, see our guide to Weehawken Waterfront Park.

  • Address: 1 Port Imperial Boulevard, Weehawken
  • Hours: Check with the township
  • Cost: Free
  • Website: Township of Weehawken

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, Jersey City

The Walkway covers about 18.5 miles of Hudson River shoreline from Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge. In Jersey City, the stretches around Exchange Place and Newport face Lower Manhattan directly, and both are close to PATH stations. Hours vary by section, so stick to the busy, well lit stretches near the PATH.

A Note on Liberty State Park

Liberty State Park has stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan, but its gate is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., so it is not a midnight spot. It is a beautiful place for a last walk of the year at sunset on December 31. See more fall and winter waterfront ideas in our guide to the best waterfront spots and parks in Hudson County.

Confirmed 2026 New Year’s Events

Holiday Break Public Skate at Korpi Ice Rink, Bayonne (Wednesday, Dec. 30)

Bayonne’s indoor Korpi Ice Rink adds an extra afternoon public session during the holiday break, an easy family outing the day before New Year’s Eve. See every rink in our guide to ice skating in Hudson County.

  • Address: Bayonne High School, 28th Street and Avenue A, Bayonne
  • Date and time: Wednesday, December 30, 2026, 2 to 3:15 p.m.
  • Cost: Adults $10, students $5, skate rental $5
  • Website: Korpi Ice Rink

Not Yet Announced for 2026

Hudson County restaurants, bars and hotels usually post their New Year’s Eve dinners and parties in December, and none had announced 2026 plans when we last checked. Newport Skates listed New Year’s Day hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. last season, so check its site for the January 1, 2027 schedule. We will add confirmed parties, dinners and family events here as they are announced.

Getting There and Home

Parking near the waterfront fills up fast on New Year’s Eve, so take the PATH to Hoboken, Exchange Place or Newport if you can. Check PATH and NY Waterway holiday schedules before you head out, and plan your ride home before midnight. Dress warmly, since it is always colder and windier right on the river.
