Jersey City is home to an incredible mix of woman-owned businesses, from neighborhood bakeries in the Heights to a Caribbean gastropub in Bergen-Lafayette. Our team rounded up six woman-owned businesses in Jersey City, NJ to support this season and beyond. Each woman-owned claim below comes from the business’s own website or a credible local publication.
1. Cocoa Bakery

Cocoa Bakery, at 475 Central Avenue in Jersey City Heights, is founded and led by Chef Jessica Isaacs, a former pastry chef at Nobu who trained at Le Calandre. Everything is made from scratch daily, from custom cakes and cupcakes to pies and coffee. Everything Jersey City lists it among the city’s woman-owned cafes.
2. Korai Kitchen

Korai Kitchen, at 576 Summit Avenue, serves homestyle halal Bangladeshi dishes made by James Beard nominated chef and owner Nur-E Gulshan Rahman, known to regulars as Amma. 3. Babka Bail Out

Babka Bail Out, at 476 Central Avenue, started during the pandemic when owner Michal began baking babkas to help a family friend pay her bills. 4. Drunken Bee & Company

Drunken Bee & Company handcrafts soaps, bath and body products and hand-poured soy candles in a Jersey City workshop. The brand describes itself as a minority woman owned business that started when the founder turned her grandmother’s natural recipes into skincare for her son. Gift sets make easy holiday presents.
