- “More Than Brothers,” a documentary by Andrea von Siebenthal of Switzerland and the USA
- “The Whistle,” an animation by Greg Franklin of Highland Beach, Florida
- “The Letter,” a documentary by Oliver Wüerffell of Germany and Brooklyn, New York
- “Sürgünlik (Exile),” an animation by Jeremiah Dickey of Palisades, New York
The festival’s own calendar bills the afternoon as its Hudson County Movie Tour stop at the Secaucus Public Library, with selected short films presented in person by executive director Jane Steuerwald.
About the Thomas Edison Film Festival
The festival marks its 45th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1981 by John Columbus, an artist and filmmaker from West Orange, and was originally named the Black Maria Film Festival after Thomas Edison’s film studio in West Orange, according to the festival’s history page. Its parent nonprofit, the Thomas Edison Media Arts Consortium, lists a Hoboken mailing address.
Today the festival is a traveling showcase of short films across genres, from documentary and narrative to animation and experimental work. It is recognized as an Academy Award Qualifying Film Festival, and the festival says it is the only one in New Jersey with that status.
