Weehawken and Guttenberg are two of the smallest towns in Hudson County, NJ, but they punch way above their size when it comes to community spirit. Our team rounded up four Weehawken and Guttenberg nonprofits that bring affordable music lessons to kids, stage bold local theater, fight food insecurity and give artists a place to create. Each one welcomes volunteers, donations or a friendly hello.

1. United Children’s Music Project (Weehawken)

United Children’s Music Project, known as UCMP, runs its program at 4710 Park Avenue in Weehawken. Its mission is to create a better life for children and youth through affordable music and arts education, with an after school orchestra program and the UCMP Academy. Enroll, donate or sponsor a child on the UCMP website.

2. Hudson Theatre Works (Weehawken)

Hudson Theatre Works is a Weehawken nonprofit theater company devoted to challenging, authentic performances, from world premieres to fresh takes on modern classics. It also hosts new play readings and workshops, and it has been offered a future home in the Performing Arts Center planned for the Weehawken waterfront. See what’s next on the Hudson Theatre Works website.

3. Food Justice For All (Weehawken)

Food Justice For All is a group of students from three Weehawken schools working to end food insecurity. They bake, cook and serve meals, run food drives and built a garden for residents of PERC, the local shelter, and they raised $15,000 in 2025. Their 5K for Food Justice is set for November 14. Get involved on the Food Justice For All website, and read more in our Weehawken 5K story.

4. Guttenberg Arts (Guttenberg)

Guttenberg Arts is a community based nonprofit founded in 2014 with a 4,500 square foot studio in Guttenberg for printmaking, painting, sculpture and ceramics. It offers artist residencies, exhibitions, classes, workshops and the Guttengarden community garden. Take a class or support the studio on the Guttenberg Arts website.
